Rygor’s Mercedes-Benz star rises in Gloucester

The future has never looked brighter for van and truck operators based in and around Gloucestershire, following the opening by Mercedes-Benz Dealer Group Rygor of a stunning, flagship branch.

The purpose-built dealership on the high-profile Railway Triangle development in Gloucester represents a £4-million investment by Rygor, which sells and supports FUSO Canter light trucks as well as vehicles bearing the legendary three-pointed star.

The new building comprises a stylish retail van showroom and offices, as well as a fully-equipped workshop with dedicated bays for truck and van MoT tests, and a well-stocked Parts department. Its location, alongside an overhead section of Metz Way, is within easy reach of the M5, while, crucially, the 3.5-acre site also offers ample room for vehicle parking.

The branch was formally opened by Gloucester MP Richard Graham at a launch event attended by customers and suppliers, senior representatives of the manufacturer and Rygor colleagues. He declared: “I had no idea that a building designed to look after vans and trucks could be so stylish and so fantastic.”

The MP congratulated Rygor, its architects CP Maybin Architectural Design and builders Rigg Construction, for completing the project on time and under budget. It had, he said, transformed a previously blighted area, creating new job opportunities and giving passers-by “something exciting to look at while they travel over Metz Way”.

Mr Graham also praised Managing Director Tim Stacey and his management team for their achievements to date and ambitions for the future. “We need entrepreneurs like this,” he insisted, “people who are prepared to create businesses and grow them to make this country succeed.”

Tim thanked all of those who had helped to make Rygor’s Gloucester dream a reality, particularly the 14-strong team who had been working on the project for nearly three years, and those colleagues who had relocated from the company’s former branch in Tewkesbury.

Julie Steed, Director responsible for the new dealership, declared: “I am proud to be leading what I am sure will be a winning team.” And she pledged: “Rygor Gloucester will be the blueprint for the way we do business. This branch has been built to exacting specifications and in line with our company mantra, customers can rely on us to Set Standards.”

Highlights of the launch event included a question and answer session with Gloucester Rugby stars, driving challenges and a raffle that raised funds for local charity James Hopkins Trust, as well as Banes-based Dorothy House Hospice Care and Bath Cats & Dogs Home.

Steve Bridge, Managing Director, Mercedes-Benz Vans, said: “With this impressive new facility Rygor is once again demonstrating its long-term commitment to our customers and brand. Its smart, comfortable showroom represents exactly the kind of welcoming, retail-focused environment we are encouraging our Dealer partners to develop.”

Mike Belk, Managing Director, Mercedes-Benz Trucks, added: “Located close to the M5 and therefore easily accessible from the main trunking routes across the Midlands and the South-West, as well as the Welsh Borders, Rygor’s new site demonstrates once again our determination to provide our growing customer base with a strategic network of facilities that best meets their needs.”

Among those attending were long-term friends of Rygor Edward Kuznierski, the proprietor of independent tyre dealer Ski Tyres, and Colin Johnson, Fleet Engineering Manager at John Lewis. “Image has never been more important and this new dealership is absolutely beautiful,” said Mr Kuznierski. Mr Johnson agreed: “The showroom is really smart; the whole development represents a huge step forward.”

Nick and Phil Green run Tewkesbury-based truck and van hire specialist Green-line Vehicle Rental. “This place is special, and a facility the Dealer can be very proud of,” said Nick Green, while his brother Phil observed: “Rygor’s staff should have a real ‘feel good factor’ when they come to work here.”

Simeon Clark is Purchasing Manager with Ryder, which partners with the Dealer for maintenance and parts support. “As soon as I came off the main road I could see it was a very impressive operation,” he said. “Rygor are clearly geared up to deliver a high level of service here.”
