Having launched its charity fundraising initiative back in 2014, Mercedes-Benz Commercial Vehicle Dealer Group, Rygor Commercials has this month surpassed the £50,000 total fundraising mark.
Back in 2014, Rygor launched its Charities of the Year programme, a group of three charities nominated and voted for by its team members. Over the years, the business has raised a significant amount for charities including, Wiltshire Air Ambulance, Dorothy House, Hope for Tomorrow, Cots for Tots, Shooting Star Chase, Camp Mohawk and Cameron’s Steps, as well as offering support to other causes where possible. The Dealer had several fundraising events in planning for 2020 to help them reach a running fundraising total of £50,000 this year, until COVID-19 hit. Still wanting to help bring its team members together and to support charities which are currently seeing significantly less donations, the Rygor team chose to get involved with Mercedes-Benz Vans UK’s 100 Challenge, through an online charity fitness class.
Caroline Burnell, PR & internal communications manager at Mercedes-Benz Vans UK, said: “Throughout July, our team has been raising money for Cancer Research UK, through our 100 Challenge. As our annual charity cycle from Manchester to Blackpool was understandably cancelled this year, we didn’t want our nominated charity, Cancer Research UK to miss out on any lost donations. So, instead of pounding the pedals for 100km, we encouraged our team and colleagues in the Dealer network to get involved to help raise money for this incredible cause. We were delighted that Rygor organised their own fundraising event, which saw more than 50 people from across the network and beyond, take part.”
Paul Reed, Rygor owner director who devised the charity fitness class, said: “Over the years our team has organised and taken part in some fantastic fundraising events for our nominated charities. Obviously, this year, team events have not been permissible, so when we heard about the Mercedes-Benz Vans 100 Challenge, as a Dealer we wanted to get involved and help raise money for Cancer Research UK. Although not one of our current Charities of the Year, as a Mercedes-Benz Vans Dealer, we also want to support their initiatives as they are also close to our hearts.
“At Rygor we are incredibly passionate about supporting and raising awareness around the importance of health and wellbeing and have a robust wellness programme in place. I wanted to be able to bring together this element of our company culture and our fundraising initiative, so I thought an online fitness class would be a great charity event. We opened the class up to not only our team and their family and friends, but our colleagues at Mercedes-Benz Vans UK and other Dealers. As a qualified fitness teacher myself, it was fantastic to be able to lead the first half of the session, before handing over to Sarah Palfreyman from Mercedes-Benz Vans UK to lead the second half. To date this event has raised more than £1,000 for Cancer Research. Not only was this event a great opportunity to fundraise for an incredibly worthy cause, but it has also taken us past the £50,000 total fundraising mark since the inception of our charity initiative. With many of our teams working remotely, it was fantastic to be able to bring people together (virtually) and feel the camaraderie and enjoyment,” Paul added.
Sarah Palfreyman, head of network operations at Mercedes-Benz Vans UK, said: “I was thrilled that the Rygor team asked me to be involved with their charity event and we had a great start to the morning with this online fitness class. It was so positive to see so many of our colleagues, friends and family on screen and I am delighted that we have raised so much from this one event, as part of our overall 100 Challenge. I hope we get to do something similar again soon.”
