Duckworths play the generation game with Mercedes-Benz Vans

Vehicle salvage specialists Mike and Rod Burrows know all about the value of automotive metal, which is why they have just invested in a pair of dynamic Mercedes-Benz Vans from Dealer group, Rygor.

The father-and-son team behind Duckworths Salvage & Spares, of Truro, are no strangers to the three-pointed star. Rod’s eye-catching red Vito Sport Dualiner replaces an 09-registered version of the same model which he also purchased from Rygor three years ago.

Meanwhile, their single-car transporter is based on a 3.5-tonne Mercedes-Benz Sprinter chassis cab that continues to serve as a reliable workhorse despite being 18-years-old.

By contrast, the Long-bodied Citan Sport variant is a new addition to the manufacturer’s award-winning range, having been launched earlier this year. The vehicle is a real head-turner, thanks to a number of visual enhancements. These include colour-coded bumpers and door mirrors, daytime driving lights, a chrome front-grille, sidebars and tailgate trim, and 16-inch, multi-spoke alloy wheels.

Inside, meanwhile, Citan Sport customers ride in air-conditioned comfort, and get a leather-trimmed steering wheel, Sports mats and badging.

Packed with clever features, as well as being safe and easy to drive, the Citan is the smallest Mercedes-Benz Van yet. It is also impressively economical. Mike’s 111 CDI produces a sprightly 110 hp while the Citan Sport is also available as a 109 CDI with 90 hp output – both are capable of returning an outstanding 61.4 mpg on the combined cycle.

“I’m delighted with my first Mercedes-Benz,” he confirmed. “The Citan Sport looks very smart and is every bit as comfortable as my wife’s car. I was using a car myself previously, but the Citan is more practical for work, as well as being extremely economical to run – I’m comfortably getting 50 mpg which, given the roads down here, is very good indeed.”

Partners in the business, Mike and Rod make general collections and deliveries throughout Cornwall in their new vans; Rod also uses his vehicle, an ex-Rygor demonstrator from the Vito model range that was recently superseded, to transport motorbikes.

He said: “Our previous Mercedes-Benz Vans have been excellent – the Sprinter transporter was brand new when we bought it 1997 and it still has plenty of life left in it yet.

“As for the Dealer, I bought my last Vito Sport from Rygor and they were very good, so I saw no reason to go elsewhere this time. Once again they responded quickly and efficiently to our initial enquiry and have since provided a first-class service.”

Duckworths Salvage & Spares was founded by Rod Burrows’ grandfather – Rod and Mike bought the business in 1985. The company operates from a 3.5-acre site with 12,000 sq ft of warehousing at Chacewater, and supplies new and used vehicle spares and accessories, as well as repairable salvage, vehicle collection and storage services.

Rygor Van Sales Executive Dean Flockton added: “As part of our Setting Standards mantra we’re committed at Rygor to providing every customer with a bespoke sales service which enables us to supply them with the right vehicle, whatever their application.

“Having already experienced the Vito we supplied to him three years ago, Rod Burrows had no hesitation in coming back for another. And when he mentioned that his father was looking for a small fuel-efficient vehicle that was both practical and stylish, it was clear that the Citan Sport would fit the bill perfectly.”
