You will be carrying out servicing and repairs to Mercedes-Benz Commercial Vehicles, to a high standard of quality and productivity. You will be working within a team of like-minded individuals and preparing quality paperwork

You will have a minimum qualification of City and Guilds level 3 certificate in commercial vehicles or equivalent. Mercedes-Benz training and experience, and a Class 1 licence, would be an advantage but we would consider your application if you have worked in a similar main dealer HGV environment. You will have a “fix first time” attitude together with excellent communication skills.

Essential skills and experience needed for the role:

  • Level 3 qualification; level 3 City & Guilds or NVQ qualified technician
  • Ability to work within guidelines given and to strict deadlines
  • Be able to actively seek solutions to problems
  • Be able to work under pressure
  • Be able to work as part of a team
  • Good communication skills
  • HGV licence is an advantage

We are recruiting for a successful Workshop Manager to join our large and busy workshop in Swindon.

You will need to have previous experience on the tools as a qualified mechanic and proven leadership skills. As the Workshop Manager, is essential that you have a full understanding of all the Mercedes-Benz products and have a solid technical background.

This position would suite a Technician looking to progress their career into a senior role and come off the tools.

  • Previous experience within a busy commercial workshop

  • Good customer relation skills to adapt to customers individual requirements
  • Ability to handle pressure without it affecting working relationships and effectiveness
  • Good basic administration knowledge

  • Previous supervisory experience would be beneficial

Your day to day job will be to manage, assist and motivate technicians in order to run a successful and smooth-running workshop.

Main duties and responsibilities include but not limited to;

  • To supervise flow of work for their team and allocating work as required
  • To ensure that technicians are working at acceptable levels during shifts
  • To ensure that work is issued and completed to the agreed deadlines
  • Ensure that all customer complaints are dealt with both speedily and effectively
  • Responsible for providing technical support to team members as and when required
  • To ensure that a quality control procedure is carried out as per MBUK guidelines
  • Carry out regular performance assessments of team member

Key purpose of the job

To develop both new and existing service and parts business to enable aftersales financial targets to be achieved

To ensure that all company policies and procedures applicable to their area of responsibility are always adhered to.

Accountabilities

  • Develop service & parts business within a predetermined territory, identifying new business opportunities and promoting the company’s products and services in respect of parts
  • Undertake a regular visit programme to all existing account holders in order to maximise sales, producing daily call sheets in respect of all calls made
  • Achieve service & parts sales targets and promote any special promotions or sales incentives as required, recommending special incentives or promotions in respect of customer accounts in order to maximise sales or address shortfalls against sales targets
  • Obtain necessary customer details in order for credit references to be taken up and new accounts to be opened resolving any queries with customers as required
  • Ensure that the image and levels of customer service is in line with both company and franchiser standards
  • Ensure that all customer complaints are dealt with both speedily and effectively, referring any unresolved problems are referred to the Parts Manager
  • Ensure that within their area of operation all Company and Trade Associations policies, procedures and minimum standards are met and that all statutory requirements including trading standards, fire, health and safety are adhered to
  • Handle all internal and external customers and suppliers with courtesy and ensure the Mercedes-Benz experience is always delivered to all contacts.
  • Actively engage in the manufacturers strategic custom development plans to demonstrate strategic visits to key accounts, lapsed and new business
  • Complete all engagement requirements to achieve bonus payments from the manufacturer for the business

Skills and experience required 

  • Clean driving licence
  • Previous automotive aftersales sales experience
  • Thorough knowledge of all department products and services and local area
