Rygor Triumphs at Commercial Motor Awards
The team from Mercedes-Benz Dealer Group Rygor took centre stage at last Thursday’s prestigious Commercial Motor awards, where the company was proud to take home the winner’s trophy for Showroom of the Year.
Tim Stacey, Rygor managing director, said: “We are so proud of everything that our team has achieved over the past couple of years and this award is very much a testament to their hard work and dedication to our customers. We were thrilled to have been shortlisted in four categories this year and even more delighted to walk away as the winners of the Showroom of the Year category in light of the significant investment at our Gloucester branch.”
This award comes off the back of a great 12 months for the Rygor Group. Notably, 2018 saw Rygor’s Owner Directors Tim Stacey, Graham Drake and Paul Reed celebrate 10 years of ownership of the business.
Tim said: “Having started life in the 1960’s as a family haulage business in the Mendips, today we employ more than 700 team members with 11 authorised Mercedes-Benz Vans and Mercedes-Benz Trucks sales and after sales branches across the UK. The growth of our business has been substantial over the past 10 years and the launch of our Gloucester branch in late 2016 was a significant part of this growth as it represented a huge investment not only in the business and the Gloucester area, but crucially in our fantastic team. Seeing our team get recognised for their commitment and achievements at these awards is an exceptionally proud moment for me and my fellow owner/directors.”
Rygor’s mission is to be a place where their team is proud to work, and customers want to come back, time and time again, because they Set Standards. Part of achieving this has been implementing a robust apprentice programme, to nurture home-grown talent. In light of its commitment to apprenticeships, Rygor was also shortlisted in the Apprentice of the Year Category. Third year technical apprentice, Thomas Belcher was the focus of the award entry, due to his exceptional hard work and achievements, both at college and in the workshop.
Adam Swann, Rygor 24hr technician and one of Thomas’ mentors, said: “Thomas understands the importance of his role and how it affects customers. He’s dedicated to delivering exceptional standards of technical work and proactively offers to do extra tasks off his own back, always keen to learn more and do more for his colleagues. The future is already in Thomas’ sights as he strives to be a 24hr tech and has recently completed his IVR training. These kinds of aspirations are exactly what apprenticeships are all about, being a platform on which to build a lasting, creditable and rewarding career. Thomas will always be a winner in our eyes!”
Thomas said: “For me, I couldn’t see myself going to college, I wanted a hands-on role where I could learn on the job. From a young age I knew I wanted to work with vehicles. The Mercedes-Benz brand really appealed to me and after doing some research, I could see that there were so many opportunities in commercial vehicle apprenticeships. Rygor Swindon is great – I wake up and I am happy to go to work in the morning. Throughout my apprenticeship I have been treated so well by the team at Rygor, who have given me so many opportunities to learn – the team is really a fountain of knowledge.”
The Rygor team was also shortlisted in the Franchised Dealer of the Year and Sales Team of the Year categories in light of their great relationships with the manufacturer and phenomenal sales achievements and customer service levels.
