Rygor Commercials and Mercedes-Benz Work Out for Dementia UK
At a time when the country needs to pull together like never before, Rygor Commercials is spreading its wellness message and community spirit, far and wide.
On Friday 27 November, members of Team Rygor were joined by colleagues from the Mercedes-Benz Dealer network, for an energetic early morning work-out. With Covid-19 restrictions firmly in place, this fitness class was held virtually and enabled team members from across the network (and across the country) to come together to raise money for Dementia UK. With an initial fundraising target of £500 for this event, Rygor and Mercedes-Benz already smashed this target before the workout even took place, with a current total of £895 and rising.
Since 2014, Team Rygor has raised in excess of £50,000 for various charitable causes and the business also runs a robust wellness programme, with many of its team actively participating in all sorts of challenges, in support of its Charities of the Year initiative.
As with so many things in 2020, fundraising events have been restricted by the ongoing pandemic, and as a business Rygor recognises the effect Covid-19 restrictions have had on the good causes it supports. So with this in mind, Rygor owner director, Paul Reed designed a fitness class to combine the best of 2020 (teamwork, community spirit and a new familiarity with online platforms) with Rygor’s commitment to its team’s Wellness Programme.
Paul was joined by Sarah Palfreyman from Mercedes-Benz Vans UK, to put the event attendees through their paces, with overwhelming success and all money donated going to Dementia UK. Paul said: “Dementia is an illness close to my heart, with my father, who has now passed away, having suffered with dementia, and now my mother-in-law, who has had to go into a home during the pandemic due to dementia. The whole experience before and now has been so terrible for my wife. Neuro degenerative diseases are plain horrible for the family unit and Dementia UK does a brilliant job supporting families through such an upsetting period.
“I think in these times of worry, uncertainty and divide during the pandemic, it is great to get so many people participating, starting the day with a smile, some fitness and raising money for this great charity,” Paul added
Sarah Palfreyman, head of network operations at Mercedes-Benz Vans UK, said: “2020 has been an extremely challenging year for all of us in one way or another. Some of us have been impacted personally by Covid-19, others have learned that beyond being a parent, we have had to upskill to teach our children. Many of us have used the opportunity to reignite our love for sport and fitness and in my case, used it has a way to keep close to my team and work colleagues by providing daily fitness classes online. In many ways, working out together has brought us closer and we all look forward to seeing each other, keeping ourselves motivated.
“When news spread of the sessions I was running for our Mercedes-Benz UK, I was delighted to be asked by Rygor to participate in an event that raises much needed money for charities who have had to tighten their belts this year, due to lack of fundraising. Having personal experience of family members who have suffered from dementia-related conditions, this is a perfect way to give back at the same time as keeping us all fit, ready to enjoy Christmas together – fingers crossed! I hope everyone had a great time and thank them all for their generosity in donating,” Sarah added.
As people all over the country adapt to the ‘new normal’, and adopt online methods of meeting together, Rygor is delighted to be able to use digital technology to continue its support of good causes and the whole team looks forward to more exciting fundraising in 2021.
Dementia UK CEO, Hilda Hayo, said: “This current pandemic has compounded the challenges that people with dementia face, particularly as day care centres and other sources of respite have closed down. An Admiral Nurse is a lifeline for families affected by dementia and the invaluable fundraising of Team Rygor will mean we can provide this vital, life-changing support to even more families who need it at this critical time.”
