Rextec rolls out the red carpet for Mercedes-Benz Vito vans from Rygor
Food sector supplier Rextec UK has hit upon a new recipe for success in the shape of its first Mercedes-Benz Vito vans.
The family-owned firm, which is based in Holcombe, Somerset, provides customers throughout the UK with a rapid response repair and maintenance service covering all types of bakery, catering and environmental/recycling equipment.
Leading Dealer group Rygor has now delivered four Vito 116 BlueTEC Longs, which have been assigned to members of the company’s 22-strong team of field engineers, who between them have clocked-up more than 350 years’ experience! A further 10 examples of the same model are due to enter service before the end of the year.
Meanwhile Managing Director Rex Young, who founded his business in 1985 and still likes to ‘keep his hand in’, has treated himself to a Long-bodied Vito 119 BlueTEC crew van with second row of seats.
Equipped with optional air conditioning systems, Rextec’s new vans ride on eye-catching alloy wheels and are smartly finished in the red paintwork for which its vehicles have become well known within the industry.
Operations Director Georgina Carter recalled: “We had a long-established relationship with another van supplier but were no longer happy with this arrangement so decided to go out to the market to see what else was available.
“Rygor Van Sales Executive Andy Dummer arranged a week-long trial of a Vito and we were impressed from the outset. The Long version is the ideal size for our engineers, whose vans are racked out to carry all of the tools and spare parts they need to provide customers with a ‘first time fix’.
“They are delighted with their new vans, which look fantastic, and the Mercedes-Benz star conveys an image which can only underpin our own reputation for quality.”
Rextec has signed-up to flexible, low-cost Agility finance agreements, which give operators a variety of options at the end of the term. “The monthly payments for the Vito are actually lower than we were paying previously, while the process of arranging the finance was so much easier than it’s been in the past,” continued Georgina Carter. “In fact, the package put together by Andy is better in every respect.”
The mid-sized Vito is also available in front wheel-drive form but the advanced 2.1-litre, twin-turbo diesel which powers Rextec’s new vans drives the rear wheels. This engine has met Euro 6 emissions regulations since the latest Vito range was launched in the spring of 2015, some 18 month before they came into force.
In the 116 BlueTEC it combines sprightly performance – 163 hp and 380 Nm of torque – with a wallet-friendly 47.1 mpg (combined cycle). Mr Young’s range-topping 119 BlueTEC produces a more muscular 190 hp yet still consumes significantly less fuel than its equivalent predecessor, with economy up by around 14 mpg.
His van, the appearance of which is further enhanced by colour-coded bumpers and the personalised, ‘14 RY’ registration plate, came equipped as standard with a 7G-TRONIC PLUS seven-speed automatic transmission; Rextec has optionally specified this smooth-shifting gearbox on two of its 116 BlueTECs, to reward long-serving members of its team.
Like all Mercedes-Benz vans, the company’s Vito BlueTECs are equipped with a reassuring armoury of safety systems and came with a three-year, unlimited mileage manufacturer’s warranty. As they are being maintained within the official Mercedes-Benz Dealer Network under Service Plans arranged by Rygor, they also attract MobiloVan cover, which includes free roadside assistance for up to 30 years.
Andy Dummer commented: “Rygor’s commitment to Setting Standards means we have been able to come up with a tailored solution that provides Rextec with the right vehicles at the right price. We’re very proud to be doing business with this highly professional company and look forward to developing our new relationship with Rex and his colleagues over the months and years to come.”
