This September saw the second annual Rygor Championships – an inter-branch football competition, all in the name of charity.
Earlier this year the Mercedes-Benz Commercial Vehicle Dealer group, announced its Charities of the Year 2016-17, as James Hopkins Trust, Dorothy House Hospice Care and Bath Cats and Dogs Home. Over the next 12 months, Rygor is actively fundraising for and supporting these three exceptional causes, which were nominated and voted for by the company’s team members.
The weather on match day was kind to the footballers who travelled to the Supermarine Rugby Ground in Swindon to take part in the 6-a-side challenge. After a warm-up session and team pep talks, the matches got under way. Goal after goal, miss after miss, the teams put their hearts and souls into the game, but it was Rygor’s Heathrow team who triumphed and were crowned the Rygor Charity Champions 2016, with Rygor Kidderminster achieving Silver and its Swindon team, Bronze.
Rygor owner director, Graham Drake, who played for the Westbury team, said: “It is always fantastic to see our team come together outside of work to help raise money for charities which are close to all our hearts. The tournament was a great deal of fun, with a real sense of camaraderie and was made even better knowing that the money raised was helping three fantastic causes.”
Sarah James, head of fundraising at James Hopkins Trust: said: “I’m overawed at how many Rygor colleagues united from all over the UK to raise money for their nominated charities! It sounds like the fifty plus players had a wonderful day and to raise money at the same time is just fantastic, thank you from the bottom of our hearts.”
Rachel Jones, head of fundraising and communications at bath Cats and Dogs Home, said: “Congratulations to all the Rygor players who took part in the football tournament to raise money for Bath Cats and Dogs Home, we hope everyone enjoyed their matches! All the money raised by Rygor will mean Bath Cats and Dogs Home can rescue, rehabilitate and rehome unwanted pets, and with 1,300 animals needing our help each year every penny raised really does count. We’re thrilled Rygor is supporting us this year and saving unwanted animals.”
Henrietta Beard, corporate fundraiser at Dorothy House Hospice Care, said: “As one of the chosen Charities of the Year for Rygor, Dorothy House Hospice Care are delighted that the annual football match was once again such a huge success. The continued support of Rygor really does make a difference when it matters most, enabling us to deliver excellent, compassionate end of life of care in the community we serve.”
With 11 branches throughout Berkshire, Gloucestershire, Oxfordshire, Somerset, West London, Wiltshire and Worcestershire, Rygor are a multi award winning specialist Mercedes-Benz van and truck Dealership.
