Rygor Says “Be Safe Be Seen” to Local Schools

The team from Mercedes-Benz Commercial Vehicle Dealer group, Rygor, took time away from their dealerships last month to visit local schools to discuss truck and road safety.

Chris Moore, Rygor’s truck training manager delivered an engaging presentation to children at Westbury Leigh Primary School in Westbury and Fairholme Primary School in Heathrow, to highlight the importance of being safe and visible when walking to and from school.

The school children enjoyed a presentation in assembly, given by Chris, which was followed by the chance to get into the Mercedes-Benz Actros truck to see what it is like to be a truck driver!

Chris said: “Trucks are exceptional vehicles and the Mercedes-Benz product has a fantastic array of safety features, but it is still important for other road users and pedestrians to be aware and alert when out and about.

“It is so important to the team at Rygor to work within the local community and give back to those around us. This is why we wanted to visit some of the schools local to our branches across the UK to discuss the importance of being safe and seen when out, particularly now the colder months are upon us and the days are getting shorter. It’s important that road safety and awareness starts at an early age, which is why we have given each of the children who attended the presentations a reflective snap band to help them be visible when walking to and from school,” Chris added.

John Fowler, deputy headteacher at Westbury Leigh Primary School in Wiltshire, said: “Coincidently, we had actually planned road safety to be part of the September curriculum, as it is back to school month. With the West Wilts Trading Estate, where Rygor is based, right on our doorstep we thought it would be great to include truck safety into this module, so we were delighted when Rygor got in touch with us.

“The children and teachers loved the assembly presentation and it helped them realise that things are not always as easy to spot as they may think, particularly on the roads. They also really enjoyed getting onto the truck and could appreciate how large a vehicle it is. We most definitely would love to hold a similar event again next year with Rygor. On behalf of all the pupils and staff here at Westbury Leigh, I would like to say a big thank you to the Rygor Group for coming in.” Mr Fowler added.
