New Vito from Mercedes-Benz Dealer Rygor joins the JJX Logistics air force
JJX Logistics operates from headquarters in Wolverhampton and is a proud member of the Midlands Aerospace Alliance. Its 3.2-tonne New Vito Extra-long arrived via the Kidderminster branch of Rygor. Britain’s largest Mercedes-Benz Commercial Vehicle Dealer has also recently delivered a 3.5-tonne Sprinter 316 CDI with curtainside body by Truck Engineering, of Darlaston.
JJX Small Haul was founded in 1997 by John Donovan, who changed its name in 2007 to JJX Logistics, to better reflect the diverse nature of its business – the family-owned company also serves customers from the automotive, rail, marine, brewing, technology, and print and packing industries.
Having started out with a single van by another manufacturer, Mr Donovan bought his first Mercedes-Benz shortly afterwards. Since then, every new JJX vehicle has worn a three-pointed star.“It doesn’t matter whether you’re talking about reliability, durability, comfort, safety or just all-round quality, Mercedes-Benz vans are streets ahead of the competition,” he enthused.
Today, the JJX Logistics fleet extends to 24 vans – most are Sprinters although the line-up also includes half a dozen Vito models and a single, small Citan – and four trucks, a 7.5-tonner and three Actros tractor units.
“To be honest I’m a bit of a ‘geek’ when it comes to vans,” laughed Mr Donovan. “I bought one of the first Euro 6 models, a temperature-controlled Sprinter, a year ago, and now I’m one of the first customers for the New Vito.”
A real head-turner in its metallic blue paintwork with colour-coded bumpers, five-spoke alloy wheels and roof rails, the latest addition to the JJX Logistics fleet also came with an optional Driving Assistance package that includes the Collision Prevention Assist, Blind Spot Assist and Lane Keeping Assist systems, as well as host of other extra features such as Tempmatic Air Conditioning, an LED Intelligent Light System, a Comfort driver’s seat and Chrome interior trim.
The New Vito is powered by an advanced 2.1-litre engine which transmits its 163 hp output via a six-speed manual transmission. The first low-emission Euro 6 engine in the mid-sized van class drives the back wheels –uniquely in this segment, New Vito customers can choose from variants with front- or rear-wheel drive configurations. The van also came with a standard-fit package of fuel-saving enhancements including alternator management, improved underbody aerodynamics and the ECO start/stop function.
Mr Donovan had already placed his order when he trialled one of Rygor’s demonstrators. “I liked everything about it,” he recalled. “The restyled front end looks really smart and it’s even more car-like and comfortable to drive than the previous model, while in terms of usable cargo space the Extra-long version is brilliant. I’m now looking forward to reaping some valuable fuel bill savings as a result of the New Vito’s improved economy.”
He continued: “It’s important that our vehicles should convey the right image, as well as being comfortable and as safe as possible for our drivers. I always load them with options and Rygor do a great job of ensuring that they arrive on time and to the correct specification.
“Back-up is crucial too, and I take great comfort from knowing that in the unlikely event one of my vans goes down when it’s on the Continent, day or night Mercedes-Benz are always on the end of the phone and help is never far away.”
JJX Logistics has made the shortlist of finalists in the Livery of the Year section of the 2015 Motor Transport Awards, alongside four of the biggest fleet operators on Britain’s roads. Its entry is based on a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter with a special vinyl wrap that highlights the company’s links with the aerospace and aviation sector – children of JJX employees are presented as aircrew, situated on the wing of a plane.
Rygor’s Kidderminster Van Sales Manager John Richards confirmed: “The entry sums up everything that’s good about JJX Logistics – it’s a modern, forward-looking and creative company which has managed to retain a strong family ethos as it’s grown, and a customer we’re very proud to serve. All at Rygor will be rooting for John and his team when the MT Awards judges announce their decision next month.”
Launched at the 2015 Commercial Vehicle Show in April, New Vito comes in three lengths and at three gross weights, and is also available as a crew van with second row of seats or passenger-carrying Tourer. As well as raising the bar in terms of performance, efficiency and all-round quality, it sets new standards for safety – standard equipment includes Adaptive ESP®, Adaptive Brake Lights, Crosswind Assist, driver and co-driver airbags, Hill-Start Assist, daytime running lights, Rescue Assist QR codes and a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System.
