Hardy is a Knockout Ambassador for Rygor Commercials

Friday 9th August 2019

MMA Dan Hardy Rygor

Award-winning Mercedes-Benz Commercial Vehicle Dealer group, Rygor Commercials, is delighted to announce MMA and UFC professional Dan Hardy as its latest brand ambassador.

Hardy, who started his career in mixed martial arts (MMA), is now a UFC commentator and analysist for sports channels and also owns his own gym and production company.

“I am delighted to become a Rygor ambassador. For me, it’s really important that I have a positive relationship with those around me and the people I choose to work with. Paul, Alan and the Rygor team are really great and the importance they put on wellbeing obviously resonates with me.”

For many years Hardy focused on MMA, but in 2008, moved into the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) field, eager to compete at the next level.

“Between 2008 and 2012 I competed in eight fights. I won four, then lost four. This was a difficult time for me – how do you come back from that? As an athlete you never envisage the end of your career, so when I lost I had no back-up plan. I took a short career break and got some perspective, taking time to look after myself, mentally and physically. With time, great support from those around me and a new trainer in the States, I began to feel so much stronger, in fact probably the strongest I had ever felt. If I get knocked down six times, I get up seven!”

Having worked through a difficult time in his life, Hardy returned to the sport with renewed vigour and persistence. However, a few years later, Hardy was given the news that no athlete ever wants to receive.

“Losing was one thing, but being told I could no longer fight, was another. A few years later that was the news I receive from medics. Mentally, this was one of the most challenging things I have had to deal with. I felt helpless – things were completely out of my control. Once again I didn’t know where I was going. As luck would have it though, I was soon approached to become a UFC commentator and analyst and my career has continued to progress from there. I have learnt that it really is the journey that’s important, not the destination.” Hardy added.

Paul Reed, owner director at Rygor, said: “It is fantastic to have Dan as one of our Rygor Brand Ambassadors. Dan is such a positive and inspiring individual and is exactly the type of person we want representing the Rygor brand. Dan has already been a great asset to our team, helping us put together a video to share with staff about mental health and wellbeing, as part of our ongoing Rygor Wellness Programme.”

Hardy added: “The Mercedes-Benz Vito Van supplied by Rygor is great, I could never go back to a car! It is such an important part of my business. It’s not about having the cheapest vehicle, but the best. I use it to transport everything – from family, friends and fighters, through to stock and filming equipment. Sometimes, the team even edits footage in the back of the van! It really is a game-changer.”

Alan Weyman, van sales executive at Rygor Heathrow, said: “It’s been a great process being able to supply Dan with a Vito van as part of our Ambassador partnership. He is a great guy and we look forward to working with him going forward.”
