Approved Used Mercedes-Benz Sprinter is a champion performer for Team FUS Husqvarna
As Britain’s first European Motocross Champion since 1999, Luke Burton is a star on two wheels. When it comes to four wheels, though, he relies on the power of Mercedes-Benz Vans supplied by Rygor Commercials.
Luke, from Nottingham, rides for Team FUS Husqvarna, and lifted the title in the IMBA (International Motor Bike Association) MX1 class, for machines with engines of 250cc or over. His triumph came in September, at the end of a season in which he raced at meetings across the Continent.
Travelling between venues as far apart as Denmark in the north and the south of France is almost as big a challenge as competing in them. However, the team has a workhorse it can truly depend on, in the shape of a customised Mercedes-Benz Sprinter.
First registered in 2015, the Long-bodied 313 CDI was sold through the Mercedes-Benz Approved Used programme by Rygor’s Heathrow branch. It had just 11,000 miles on the clock and more than 12 months of its original, three-year, unlimited mileage warranty still to run.
Mercedes-Benz Approved Used vans come with the same exacting commitment to quality and workmanship as a new vehicle. A maximum of six years old and with fewer than 150,000 miles on the clock, they have undergone a comprehensive mechanical and bodywork inspection. They also come with a support package which includes a Mercedes-Benz approved warranty, at least 12 months’ mechanical breakdown insurance, and free MobiloVan roadside assistance cover.
Team owner and Manager Michael Keenan said: “I let Rygor’s Used Van Sales Team know that I was looking for a Sprinter and they promptly came up with one that ticked all the boxes.
“It had all of the specification we wanted, including air-conditioning, a Comfort driver’s seat, and parking sensors, and was in superb condition. What’s more, the fact that Rygor itself had owned and operated the vehicle from new meant I could be completely confident that it had been maintained to the highest standard.”
Mr Keenan continued: “As it’s an Approved Used model I was able to drive away the Sprinter at much shorter notice than would have been possible had it been a new van from the factory. I snapped it up.”
Powered by a fuel-efficient 129 hp 2.1-litre engine, and equipped as standard with an industry-leading safety armoury, the Sprinter is used to carry a pair of race bikes and a full stock of tools and spare parts.
It is finished in the team’s eye-catching livery over two-tone paintwork and rides on 19-inch alloy wheels, while features added since its arrival include an accommodation space at the front of the cargo area and a workshop with extensive racking in the rear.
“It’s a fantastic vehicle and looks great in the paddock at race events,” enthused Mr Keenan. “Having owned one previously I know from experience how incredibly tough and reliable Sprinters are, and that in the unlikely event something goes wrong, wherever we are in Europe, the manufacturer’s free MobiloVan roadside assistance scheme is always on hand. I’ve not had occasion to call on it yet, but it’s certainly reassuring to know the cover is there.”
Team FUS Husqvarna has also purchased a new Mercedes-Benz Vito 119 CDI Extra-long van from Rygor Commercials, which will be maintained under a fixed-cost Service Plan.
Like the Sprinter, this vehicle came with optional air-conditioning. A 7G-TRONIC PLUS automatic transmission directs the 190 hp output from its range-topping 2.1-litre engine to the rear wheels – Vito variants are also available with front-wheel drive.
“We intended to use the Vito as a general runabout and second vehicle for the team,” said Mr Keenan. “It’s so good, though, that I’m increasingly using it as my ‘daily driver’. The van is extremely comfortable with great road manners, and feels very safe too.”
He added: “I’ve tried other vehicles in the past but for overall quality, whole-life cost and the excellent back-up, it just has to be Mercedes-Benz.”
Nick Reeves, Rygor Group Used Van Sales Manager, confirmed: “Here at Rygor, our commitment to Setting Standards isn’t restricted to the supply of new vehicles – we go to the same lengths to find the right Approved Used vans that will help keep our customers moving. We are delighted to be able to supply a perfectly-specified vehicle which has already become a valued member of Team FUS Husqvarna, and hope it can help them repeat their stunning success next season.”
Swedish manufacturer Husqvarna has been building motorcycles since 1903 and has amassed a string of international titles in various forms of off-road competition. Team FUS is the brand’s racing representative in the UK, and Luke Burton rode his machine to no fewer than three British AMCA motocross titles before taking on and beating the best across Europe.
